Sam Stosur has fallen in the third round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open to dangerous unseeded Czech Lucie Safarova.

The left-hander defeated Stosur 6-4 6-4 in 90 minutes at the WTA Premier event, moving into the quarterfinals where she will face No.4 seed Caroline Wozniacki.

Time and time again, Safarova won points with her damaging and well-disguised forehand, while also smacking six aces. She constantly forced Stosur out of position and on the run, and picked off anything short.

It continues a great run of form for Safarova, who won the recent WTA title in Quebec City.

And she continues her mastery of the Australian; Stosur has now lost her past four matches against Safarova, all in straight sets and with three of those defeats coming this season.

Her career head-to-head record against the Czech falls to 2-7.

Stosur will next contest the rich WTA China Open in Beijing, beginning 28 September.
