The Junior Open continued today with the second day of competition seeing some tough battles throughout the day.

The girl’s 16/under final took place with Victorian sisters, Marta and Jessica Brzozowska, putting their friendship to the test.

Older sister Marta won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, saying her age and experience on the court gave her the upper hand.

“I’m older so I’m more confident in matches and more experienced when it comes to playing tournaments,” said Marta.

As most sisters do these two have a fierce rivalry in singles.

“Jess always tries to get in front of me and there is a big competition between us,” she said.

“It is a bit strange playing against each other because we are normally hitting together and we play doubles together as well.

“At the end of the day we are still friends and training partners, but when we are competing we are very focused and it could be anyone on the other side of the net,” she added.

However the girls have learnt to put their differences aside when they join forces in the doubles competition.

“We like playing on the same team because we always boost each other up,” said Jessica.

“Because we practice together we know what our strong and weak points are and we push each other,” she said.

Thirteen-year-old Jessica has lost the past three battles against her older sister, but says she is confident that winning streak will soon fade.

“We are playing in a tournament in June both in the same age group,” she said.

“All going to plan we will be playing against each other in the final and this time I am determined to beat her!” added Jessica.

In other results the boy’s 12/under final tomorrow is set to be an all ACT battle with number one seed, Dimitri Morogiannis, taking on doubles partner and number two seed Patrick Wielembroek.

Morogiannis, fought out a tough two hour third set battle with Ted Williams, winning the match 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
