Grassroots tennis received a significant boost today with the re-signing of ActewAGL as sponsor of the
Community Tennis Program for the next three years.
The Community Tennis Program focuses on raising public awareness and increasing the levels of tennis
participation, competition, and training for coaches and administrators.
Tennis ACT chief executive Ross Triffitt said the program provides invaluable support to volunteer
community organisations throughout Canberra and the surrounding region.
“These services are fundamental for the growth of the sport, so we are delighted to be receiving support
from ActewAGL,” Mr Triffitt said.
“Their three-year commitment will help us sustain and grow these services and ultimately assist us in
achieving our ambitious participation targets.”
Earlier this year Tennis Australia announced its strategy to have fourmillion people playing the sport by
2016.
ActewAGL Director Marketing and Corporate Affairs Paul Walshe said the company had a proud history of
supporting sporting organisations across the ACT and the surrounding region.
“We are proud to continue our support of the Tennis ACT community tennis program, which is a great
initiative, aimed at increasing participation in tennis across our community, through grassroots programs,
investment in infrastructure and coaching education,” Mr Walshe said.
“We look forward to the next generation of tennis super stars this program may produce from our region
in the future.”
