Canberra Velocity women’s and men’s teams will make their Asia-Pacific Tennis League debut at Sydney
Olympic Park on Tuesday, November 13.

Alison Bai and Ashley Keir will lead the Canberra Velocity team in the opener against the City Community

Tennis team headed by top 100-ranked Australian players Natalie Barbir and Chloe Costello.

Bai and Keir will be joined by NSW-based Tyra Calderwood and Nicole Hoynaski in the opening tie.

Keir, 18, from Nicholls, said she’s excited that the new domestic competition is finally here.

“We had a bye the first round so we’ve had to wait a bit longer to get on court. It would be nice to give
Canberra a winning start,” she said.

Alex Bolt, the 19-year-old AIS scholarship holder, says he’s looking forward to opening Canberra Velocity’s
campaign against an impressive ATP Sydney team on Tuesday night.

“I think it’s good to play one of the better teams first up,” Bolt said of the team that boasts touring
professionals Adam Feeney, Nick Lindahl and Greg Jones.

“If all our guys can play well against them we have a good shot of taking it out,” he said.

Bolt has enjoyed a breakthrough season this year, winning his first Pro Tour title in South Australia in
September and reaching the final in Esperance two weeks later.

He now boasts a career-high ranking of 476 and, with three ITF doubles titles to his name, he will be a force for Canberra Velocity. Local junior Andrew Zedde and former professionals Alun Jones and Damien Ward complete the men’s line-up.

The five-round competition will feature the best and emerging talent from around Australia.

Canberra Velocity will play their first home ties at the National Sports Centre in Lyneham on Saturday, November 17 and Sunday, November 18. Please click here to view the daily schedule.
