Canberra Velocity put the disappointment of yesterday’s loss behind it with a commanding 6-0 victory over Shaw Park Sharks at Melbourne Park today.

Velocity, which narrowly lost its Asia-Pacific Tennis League quarter-final yesterday, came out swinging early.

Alison Bai and Tyra Calderwood did not drop a set in their opening singles rubbers, while Nicole Hoynaski beat Ashling Sumner 4-3 (5-2), 1-4, 4-1 and Ashley Keir prevailed over Lizette Cabrera 2-4, 4-2, 4-2.

In the doubles, Bai and Calderwood raced to a 4-0, 4-1 victory against Rachel Tredoux and Lyann Hoang, while Canberra teenager Imogen Clews teamed with Tarlina Tipungwuti to beat Andjela Djokovic and Brianna Thompson 4-2, 0-4 (10-2).

Team manager Todd Larkham said Velocity was eager to finish the tournament strongly.

“The girls played really well today, winning all their singles matches,” Larkham said. “They combined well. They were determined not to let up after the disappointment of losing both doubles matches yesterday.”

Velocity will play third seeds Kooyong Classic in the playoff for fifth spot tomorrow.
