On Thursday 21 February 2013 Forrest Tennis Club was host to the annual Maxim Chartered Accountants’ Tennis Invitational Charity Day raising over $100,000 for the George Gregan Foundation.

The event, featured former Davis Cup captain John Fitzgerald, will  raise much-needed funds for an adventure playground at the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Fitzgerald, the former world number 1 doubles player and winner of the “doubles Slam” (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open), says he was delighted to help raise money for such a worthy cause.

“It’s a great cause, I am honoured to be a part of the fundraising campaign,” Fitzgerald, known affectionately worldwide as Fitzy, says.

The $105,410 raised on the day will be given to the George Gregan Foundation and its efforts to build a jungle adventure playground at Canberra Hospital’s new Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Tennis ACT CEO Ross Triffitt says Maxim Chartered Accountants, which sponsors Tennis ACT’s Talent Stars Red Ball Program, is a Canberra company that continues to do great things for the community.

“Maxim Chartered Accountants has always been a great supporter of our junior tennis program,” Triffitt says. “It is a progressive local company with a social conscience.”

He says the Maxim Invitational is just another way the company is trying to give back to the community.
“Tennis provides so many social and health benefits to the community through the age, cultural and socio-economic diversification of its participants, but sometimes these benefits are difficult to quantify,” he says.

“An event like the Maxim Invitational uses tennis to facilitate a clear and tangible benefit to the community through the funds raised on the day for local charities. It’s a great event.”

In 2012, the Maxim Invitational raised $100,000 for the Oasis Youth Centre.
