Congratulations to Ashley Keir (18) for winning the Bronze AMT in Bathurst. Ashley defeated Anne-Marie Medcalf in the final in 3 sets. Ash then backed up her good form by reaching the final of the Griffith Platinum AMT. She went down in 3 sets in a very close match to No.1 seed and top 400 WTA ranked player Azra Hadzic. Ash will soon head over to Europe to play in ITF women’s circuit events for an 8 week period and we wish her luck. Also in Griffith, Imogen Clews reached the final of the women’s consolation event.

In Bathurst at the junior event 10 year old  and ACT National Academy Scholarship holder Annerly Poulos captured the 12/U girls singles and doubles titles. Annerly then backed up her great form the next weekend, by winning the 12/U girls singles at the ACT Junior Challenge (held in Sydney). Annerly is flying up the rankings and is now clearly the No.1 ranked player in her birth year in Australia, and the No.3 ranked player in the birth year above her!

Overseas Canberra’s Nick Kyrgios (18) was awarded a main draw wildcard into the Men’s Singles event at the French Open. This will be Nick’s first ever main draw of a grand slam event and he has been rewarded with a wildcard due to his outstanding form on the ATP tour in 2013, capturing 2 pro titles already and moving his ranking from 838 to 265 in just 8 professional events.

This week saw the 10/U National Development Camp being held in Canberra once again. The best 32 10/U  boys and girls from around the country have spend 5 intense days of on court training, physical and skills testing. The kids are all away from their parents and have been experiencing life at the AIS whilst doing their on court training on the clay courts at Lyneham. The ACT is represented by 2 girls, Annerly Poulos and Ashleigh Simes.

Don’t forget to keep an eye on the French Open Schedule(www.rolandgarros.com) to see when Nick plays. Hopefully he gets some TV coverage on Foxtel!
