2 July 2013 | Tennis ACT

.

It has been a quiet month for Athlete Development after what was a very successful May for both Ash Keir and Nick Kyrgios. Ashley has now left for Europe where she will compete in several ITF women’s events whilst Nick unfortunately just missed out on a spot in Wimbledon qualifying and was not granted a wildcard by the Wimbledon committee. However Nick has had a successful lead in to Junior Wimbledon by winning the AEGON Junior International Roehampton   . Following  this success Nick has now won his first round for Junior Wimbledon where he is the No.1 seed in the singles draw

National Academy ACT athletes have been undergoing a 4 week training block here in Canberra, with a few working on some important technical changes and improvements to their strokes with an eye on building their technique and weapons for the long term which will enable them to be competitive on the professional circuit in a few years time.

We also welcome back to Canberra 4 former ACT Natioonal Academy scholarship holders in Todd Volmari, Andrew Zedde and Jake and Jarred Wynan, all who have returned to see family and friends. They have finished their 1st or 2nd seasons with US CollegeTennis Teams whilst they undertake university degrees.

Upcoming events include the Rod LaverlLead in and main events followed by the ITF Junior events in Brisbane where ACT National Academy athletes will compete.
