It’s no secret that Canberra boy Nick Kyrgios is a player to watch out for as one of Australia’s future tennis stars. Nick is currently ranked No. 1 in the world juniors and has recently climbed 26 places in the world ranking to No. 186 making him the only male teenager in the world’s top 200 ranking.  This career ranking high for the 18 yr old was a result of his qualification for the 2013 US Open main draw where he played a gruelling game against 4th seed David Ferrer losing 7-5, 6-3, and 6-2. This was his second grand slam appearance with his first being the French Open earlier this year where he made it to the second round.
Kyrgios has more to look forward to after being named in a five-man team to play against Poland determined to earn a Davis Cup berth. Davis Cup Coach Josh Eagle is supportive and hopeful of the young player, ‘‘this is what we want and expect from him, because the kid’s got game.
”Every time he’s stepped up at grand slam senior level he’s showed a sense of belonging which most young players don’t have.
”He seems to thrive in these occasions, that’s really promising. Nick’s in with a huge chance and we see him as a big part of the future of Australian tennis.”
Congratulations Nick!
