AIS Scholarship holder Alex Bolt will headline the ACT men’s team in the Asia-Pacific Tennis League (ATL) against Sydney Uni Lions in Sydney on Friday, November 8.

Bolt, ranked 361 in the world, will lead the team consisting of Jake Eames, James Frawley, Robert Howe and former professional Alun Jones.

The 20-year-old left-hander from South Australia shares the same coach as Canberra’s Nick Kyrgios, who will miss Velocity’s first match due to an elbow injury.

The men’s team, who had a first round bye today, will open their 2013 campaign in the second round against Steven Goh, Kris Balakrishnan, Alex Silcock and Jurek Stasiak.

With the ATL format being the first to four games, team player/manager Todd Larkham says the victor will be the person who comes out firing from the start.

“In this format, anything can happen,” Larkham says. “It will be a tough tie. Bolt is the standout player, but the rest of the team are very evenly matched.”

The five Australian conferences will be played in November with four conference rounds and a conference final.

The five Australian conference winners will compete in the national final at Melbourne Park during the 2014 Australian Open in January.
