The ACT Super 10’s which included the NSW South-East and South-West regions was held in November. The event saw 32 x 10/under players converge on the clay courts of the National Sports Club over the weekend of Nov 22/23. Despite a top temperature of 38 degrees on the Sunday, the tennis was outstanding and much local talent was unearthed. Congratulations to the champions. “Team Dellacqua” that consisted of Airlee Savage, Rachel Dorman, Sophie McDonald and Masha Ivanova, led by Canberra School of Tennis coach Robert Jamieson in the girls event and “Team Hewitt” consisting of Charlie Snow, Maka Ofati, Rory Hogg and Hugh Taylor led by Rising Star Tennis Academy Head Coach Brett Lennard.  The players also received a nice surprise with Nick Kyrgios dropping in to sign some autographs and take photos with the players.

The Wagga Wagga junior tour event was also held in November. Young gun Annerly Poulos continued her winning ways, by taking out the 12/u girls singles event. She defeated ACT player Ashleigh Simes in the final. Annerly then teamed up with ACT 10 year old Ellie Koundouris to reach the doubles final. Annerly and Ashleigh wil spearhead the ACT 12/u girls team at the National 12/u teams event at the December showdown in Melbourne in a few weeks. . They will be supported by Luke Sarris and Jamieson Nathan (14/u boys team) and Chorlida Kang and Tallulah Farrow (14/u girls team). Managers Todd Larkham, Nathan Price and Alun Jones will be attending. We wish all the ACT players competing in the 12/u, 14/u and 16/u Nationals at the showdown all the best.

Not to be outdone by the juniors, Australia’s No.2 male player, Nick Kyrgios stole the show at the 2014 Newcombe Medal awards by taking the top honour, the Newcombe Medal. It capped off a breakthrough year for Nick, who has been training hard in Canberra in recent weeks preparing for 2015.
