ACT tennis officials were amongst the top Australian and International umpires at this year’s Australian Open and their good work was recognised by their selection for finals from over 300 officials.
Three ACT officials – Lyn and David Hinds and Josh Rowland – were selected to work the Men’s Doubles and Women’s Singles Final between Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber.
This is a great achievement for Lyn and David Hinds who have been part of a group of elite officials within Australia for many years and have continued this high level of performance.
Josh Rowland, working at only his second Australian Open, made his debut at finals at this year’s Australian Open. Josh has had a great year with working the Apia Sydney International and Canberra Challengers.
Myles Emery and Paul Simper were also selected for the finals weekend working the Juniors and Wheelchair finals.
The ACT has had a strong history in representation at the year’s first grand slam and this legacy has continued in 2016.
“We are so proud of the achievements of these ACT officials who not only contribute at a local level but perform at the highest level of tennis”, says Emma Walter Officiating Advisor for the ACT.
All these officials started their journey through a line umpire course and on court practical sessions with the support of local officials.
So if you would like to be part of the action with world class tennis now finding a home in Canberra – come and be a part of the officiating team!
