The Canberra Tennis Centre played host to the first National Junior Tournament held in Canberra for over 20-years, the 12/u and 14/u Australian Claycourt Championships from 23 – 28 September 2016.
Second seed and 13-year-old local girl Annerly Poulos played the main draw 14/u girls final, but was defeated in a close match by fourth seeded Zara Brancovic from NSW 6-7(3), 6-1, 7-6(2).
This was the second junior tournament final in just over a week for Poulos, after defeating Tahlia Van Der Eerden from SA 7-6(2) 6-1 on 23 September to become the Canberra Junior International girls champion on September 23.
Tournament Director, Francis Soyer, said everyone had such positive feedback about the Canberra Tennis Centre, and Canberra in general.
“This has been a really positive event, with excellent facilities and top conditions all week,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to making the 2017 event even better.”
128 participants played the 6-day tournament, with 32 boys and girls in each of the 4 events.
