Seventh seed Matthew Barton (NSW) [7] has on day 3 been the first seeded casualty at the Apis Canberra International going down to Victorian wildcard entry Daniel Nolan (VIC) 6-3 6-4.

Qualifier Steven De Waard has continued his impressive run defeating wildcard entry Thomas Fancutt (QLD) 6-4 6-1.  De Waard recovered from an ankle injury towards the end of the first set to eliminate his fellow Queenslander in 73 minutes.

Women’s qualifying continued today with the second round being completed.  All the remaining seeds survived to advance to tomorrow’s final round with seventh seed Abbie Myers (NSW) taking 2 hours 34 minutes to narrowly defeat Victorian Genevieve Lorbergs 4-6 6-3 7-5.

Tomorrow’s order of play features 28 matches with all the remaining 13 first round matches in the men’s draw to be played.  The final round of the women’s qualifying will also be played tomorrow together with four first round matches to start play in the women’s singles draw.

The Apis Canberra International is being held at the Canberra Tennis Centre in Lyneham from 29 October to 6 November. The event is made up of two professional tennis tournaments, men’s and women’s, both part of the Australian Pro Tour – a series providing opportunities for players to earn world ranking points and prize money.
