Lyneham ACT 2602, Australia, 1 November 2016 | Tennis ACT

Fourth seed and Traralgon semi-finalist, Marco Trungelliti (ARG) had his impressive run, since arriving in Australia last Tuesday, halted on Day 4 at the Apis Canberra International by World No. 300Daniel Masur from Germany.

In what was the longest match of the day, qualifier Masur outplayed an at times frustrated Trungelliti, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 – a marathon 2 hour and 17 minute match to complete.

South Australian and last year’s Canberra International runner-up Luke Saville failed to advance to the second round, losing to Vijay Prashanth (IND) in straight sets.

Top seed Jordan Thompson (NSW) followed on from his victory on Sunday at the Latrobe City Traralgon International with a comfortable victory over Matt Reid (NSW) 6-1, 7-5.

In the women’s field, Victorian Tammi Patterson caused the upset of the day, easily accounting for eighth seed Shuko Aoyama (JPN) 6-3, 6-0 in just 65 minutes.

Patterson, ranked 391 in the world, will be looking to capitalise on her good form, after making the quarter finals in Bendigo last month.

Young 16-year-old Victorian and runner-up at the 2016 ACT Claycourt International, Destanee Aiva added to her honor roll of great results in the nation’s capital with a tight first round victory over fellow Victorian wildcard entry Sally Peers.

And regular Australian visitor Zuzana Zlochova from the Slovak Republic had a tight victory over Queenslander Sara Tomic 6-3, 6-4.

Day 5 of the Apis Canberra International is set to welcome fifth seed Arina Rodionova (VIC) to the program, when she takes on Canberran Alison Bai. Top seed and champion at last week’s Bendigo International Risa Ozaki (JPN) will also open her campaign tomorrow against Abbie Myers (NSW).

Men’s live scores and video streaming of centre court and court 5 are available via atpchallengertour.com. Live scoring and streaming of two of the women’s matches are available at tennis.com.au/protour.

The Apis Canberra International is on at the Canberra Tennis Centre in Lyneham until November 6. Entry is free, with a gold coin donation upon entry on finals days.
