Both Annerly Poulos and Nick Kyrgios set the international tennis stage alight in March with outstanding on court performances.
Annerly represented Australia at the Asia/Oceania 14/U World Junior Teams Event. For the first time in several years, Australia won the competition. They defeated Japan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka en route to beating South Korea in the final 2-0. It capped off a remarkable tournament for Annerly, who was undefeated in singles and lost only 1 doubles match, finishing the event with an outstanding 11-1 win/loss record.
The Australian team has now qualified for the 14/u World Junior Teams final which will be held in the Czech Republic in August this year. There, they will take on the best teams from each continent in which will no doubt be a great experience for the girls.
Well done to the whole team which consisted of Annerly Poulos (ACT), Lara Walker (QLD), Anastasia Berezov (NSW) and team manager Bryanne Stewart

Nick Kyrgios went on a run in March which included three semi-finals and one quarter-finals over a six week period. He defeated top 20 players Novak Djokovic (twice), Alexander Zverev (twice) and David Goffin. Nick’s match against tennis legend Roger Federer was hailed by many as one of the greatest matches outside of a Grand Slam, with Nick narrowly going down 6-7, 7-6, 6-7.
Nick has now picked up 855 ranking points in 2017, which means he maintains his world ranking of No.16 but also moves him to 10th on the ATP rankings race to London. Nick has returned to Australia as part of the Australian Davis Cup team in the quarterfinal tie against the USA in Brisbane.
The ACT Open 2017 featured Tasmanian Harry Bouchier in the men’s Platinum event, who triumphed in 3 tough sets over Queenslander Scott Poudziunas. Whilst in the women’s event (a Silver AMT) local player Sarina Kang reached the final before going down to Gaby O’Gorman (NSW). The ACT pairing of Tallulah Farrow and Leah Williamson reached the doubles final as did local boys Jarred Wynan and Dimitri Morogiannis.
