Players from across the country have battled it out for gold junior tournament ranking points at the Tennis World Canberra Junior Open held at the Canberra Tennis Centre from October 5-8.
Tournament Director Jarrod Williams hailed the event a great success. “There was fantastic tennis all-round from players. All matches were a pleasure to officiate and a true credit to the rising talent within Australian Tennis”.
Williams noted there were a couple of standout matches on finals day saying “On court dedication and persistence was a valiant display during the 16/u boys singles final between Spencer Reynolds (NSW) and Philip Hilble (NSW). This was also evident throughout the girls 12/U consolation final between Shiori Takeda (NSW) vs Arwen Koesmapahlawan (TAS).
From an ACT perspective Nornaaah Sharmaa led the way winning the 16/u girls singles. Jack Tallarida Lyons and Jimmy Fu both made the semifinals of the 16/u boys singles.
It was in doubles where ACT players excelled, with Fu combining with Sam Bisa to win the 16/u boys doubles over Lyons and Hilble, while Ashleigh Simes won the 14/u girls doubles with Sarah Rokusek (NSW). Charlie Camus was also a finalist with James Newton (WA) in the 12/u boys doubles.
