Top seed Jordan Thompson (NSW) and third seed Matthew Ebden (WA) will open their campaigns at the Apis Canberra International 2017 on Tuesday at the Canberra Tennis Centre.

Thompson comes into the USD$75,000 ATP Challenger as the top seed off the back of a solid 2017 season.

“I’m feeling pretty good, a few weeks ago I qualified in Shanghai, its the first time I’ve qualified for a Masters” Thompson said.

“The confidence level is definitely raised, I’ve had some pretty good wins. I’ve beaten better quality opponents this year and a few wins in Davis Cup,” he added.

Thompson will face a familiar opponent in the first round in Andrew Harris (VIC).  The pair are the same age and have grown up playing against each other in the junior ranks.  Harris has also been in good form, winning his maiden pro tour title in Toowoomba earlier this month.

Ebden has also had an outstanding year, which has seen him rise almost 600 places in the ATP rankings, currently sitting at 117.  He will face Brydan Klein (GBR) in the opening round.

Last year’s finalist Marc Polmans (VIC) will also be in action along with Jason Kubler (QLD) and Alex Bolt (SA) who featured in last week’s Traralgon ATP Challenger final in which Kubler prevailed in three sets.

Main draw women’s action will commence on Tuesday with Jessica Moore (WA), Belinda Woolcock (VIC), Alexandra Bozovic (NSW), and Storm Sanders (WA) all competing.

The Apis Canberra International 2017 is on at the Canberra Tennis Centre until November 5 2017. Entry is free with a gold coin donation requested on finals weekend
