The doubles champions have been crowned at the Apis Canberra International today with Alex Bolt (SA) and Bradley Mousley (SA) winning the men’s title and top seeds Arina Rodionova (VIC) and Asia Muhammad (USA) winning the women’s event.
In the Men’s Doubles Final third seeds Bolt (SA) and Mousley (SA) proved too strong for Luke Saville (SA) and Andrew Whittington (VIC) winning the match 6-3 6-2 in just under an hour
Bolt and Mousley have proved to be a formidable combination this year combining to making the quarterfinals of Australian Open 2017 and winning 14 of 16 matches together. The South Australian’s have now won back to back ATP Challenger titles after also taking out the Latrobe City Traralgon ATP Challenger.
The pair survived a scare in the quarterfinals, but were happy with how they played in the final.
“I thought we definitely played some pretty good doubles together but we definitely saved our best match for today,” Bolt said.
In the Women’s doubles final, Rodionova and Muhammad defeated third seeds Jessica Moore (WA) and Ellen Perez (NSW) 6-4 6-4. This is the third time the pair have played together, winning the title in Bendigo last year, and also making the semifinals of last year’s Apis Canberra International.
The pair were happy with how they played in the final. “We did a good job, it was a little tricky, it got a little breezy, but I think we did a good job staying focused and played our game,” Muhammad said.
The singles final at the Apis Canberra International will be played Sunday with fourth seed Destanee Aiava (VIC) set to face sixth seed Olivia Rogowska (VIC) in the women’s final, while second seed Taro Daniel (JPN) will face third seed Matthew Ebden (WA).
The women’s final will commence at 11.00am with the men’s final scheduled for not before 12.00pm.
