Two lucky ANZ Junior Pennant players won the opportunity to toss the coin at the Women’s and Men’s singles final at the 2017 Apis Canberra International. Oscar from Kaleen Tennis Club tossed the coin for the Men’s final between Matthew Ebden and Taro Daniel, while Luca from Eastlake Tennis Club tossed the coin for the Women’s final between Olivia Rogowska and Destanee Aiava.
Oscar shared his experience with us below
“It was a wonderful day at the Apis Canberra International Pro Tour finals with amazing tennis wonderful food and lovely people. To start it off with the officials were really helpful and patient even when it took 3 goes to finally locate our seats. After we were all settled the women’s game began, it was a long gruelling match but in the end Olivia Rogowska ended up defeating young gun Destanee Aiava in straight sets. When it was my go to flip the coin I was starting to regret having that sausage roll I had for lunch. I flipped the what seemed like brick coin and felt so happy to have this once in a lifetime opportunity to flip the coin at a ATP challenger. The match was inspiring and had really good quality tennis. 1 week later back playing pennant thanks to the inspiring match I played the best I have competed in my life. Thanks for the amazing opportunity Tennis ACT this was a memory I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
Our Be Courtside competition winners also had the best seat in the house, with Daniel, Fionn, and Ryan from Weston Creek sitting on the courtside couch on finals day.
