The ACT Resident Championships were held on December 8-10 2017 at the Canberra Tennis Centre.
The historic event which dates back to 1933 gives local players, both juniors and adults, the opportunity to showcase their talent and play competitive matches with friends. Over the weekend 134 players participated in 337 matches across 21 events.
In the ACT Resident Men’s Singles top seed Christian Parker won his first Resident title after beating 2015 champion Daniel Green in the semifinals, before winning 6-3 over second seed Tristan Adrian in the final.
Parker said it was a big day of tennis in tough conditions.
“It’s pretty exhausting, it’s a long day, a lot of matches, especially on the clay, doesn’t make it too easy with the bouncy balls and the wind, but it was good to get the win today and some tough opponents as well.
Parker enjoyed the tournament and highlighted the quality talent in the ACT.
“It’s seeing the local talent, you don’t get a whole lot of opportunities to see it, and it was good to see a lot of the junior come out today and compete, and it was good to see some of the guys that I used to play alongside for quite some years play as well,” Parker said.
Daniel Green and Ryan Lopez combined to win the Resident Men’s Doubles, while Leonie Ainsworth and Helen Holcombe took out the Resident Women’s Doubles.
