24 March 2018 | Tennis ACT

A number of State Sporting Organisations have partnered with the Australian Government’s Girls Make Your Move campaign for a girls’ day on Sunday 25 March, a free community event aiming to inspire, energise and empower young women to be more active.

The Girls Make Your Move Day will be held at the Canberra Tennis Centre from 9am – 11am with a number of sports on offer including basketball, cricket, hockey, netball, tennis, and volleyball.  There will also be Yoga, Boot camp, and box fit sessions provided by Next Gen Health and Lifestyle Club Canberra.

The event is being held in conjunction with the ACT Claycourt International, back to back Women’s ITF Pro Tour tournaments which have attracted players from around the globe.

Tennis ACT CEO Kim Kachel said “With such an amazing calibre of athletes in Canberra for the ACT Claycourt International we saw it as a great opportunity to promote women’s sport and drive participation.

“We reached out to the other sports in the ACT and were overwhelmed with the response received.  We have a great sporting network here in Canberra and it’s great to work together to help promote female participation in sport.”

The focus of the day is all around participation and getting involved and active.  One hundred free tennis racquets will be given away to the first 100 girls through the gate and there will be a variety of prizes throughout the day.

As well as sports there will be additional activities for kids including a jumping castle, face painting, and Enchanted Canberra’s Belle and The Flash.

More details on the event can be found on the facebook page

Following the event, the final of the ACT Claycourt International #1 will be held at 11.00am.
