Athlete Development Update – April

Congratulations to local professional player James Frawley, who this month has posted some excellent results, particularly on clay.  Frawley won the men’s singles at the Back on Track Platinum AMT in Victoria and reached the quarterfinals of the Mornington #2 clay court Pro Tour.   Frawley made the second round at a further three Pro Tour events which now sees him return to the world’s top 1000.  The 24-year-old will soon head overseas to play in Mexico and China.

Also continuing on his winning ways is 11-year-old Charlie Camus, who took out the 12/u boys singles and doubles titles at the Albury Easter Open. Other notable results from Albury included Leah Williamson and Sarina Kang who both reached the semifinals of the women’s AMT singles and Ash Simes and Alyssa Simoncini who reached the final of the women’s AMT doubles. In the 12/u girls singles, ACT players Sophie McDonald and Aliyah Dwyer both reached the semifinals.

In US College tennis, former ACT National Academy scholarship holder Kaitlin Staines is having an outstanding debut season playing for the University of Tennessee women’s team, who are currently ranked #35 in the country. Kaitlin has now played over 30 singles and doubles matches and has only lost three matches in total and last week received the Southeastern conference Freshman of the Week award. She has helped her team, the Lady Vols,  to a 16-7 win/loss record so far.
