Athlete Development Update – July

The 11/u and 13/u Australian Teams event was held at KDV Sport on the Gold Coast from 30 June to 4 July. The ACT sent four teams to the event which included 12 players and four managers.

A special mention goes out to the 11/u ACT boys team consisting of Hugh Taylor, Elijah Dikkenberg, Zae Dwyer and manager Alun Jones who had an amazing week finishing as runners-up.

They finished top of their pool group and in doing so defeated SA, NSW and the Northern Territory team. They then took on Queensland in the semifinals, and in a tightly fought contest, came out winners to reach the final.

Not since 2009 (Nick Kyrgios, Ryan Frawley) has an ACT team reached the final of a National teams event. The team took on WA in the final and in a very close contest, eventually falling two rubbers to one. Congratulations to the boys on an incredible effort all week.

Tennis Australia Talent Manager ACT/SE NSW, Alun Jones, was extremely proud of the achievements of all of the ACT teams.

“All teams performed very well and were extremely competitive against the bigger States and I believe next year we can be even stronger.

“It was only the 3rd time in history an ACT team has made the final, so it was a huge effort from the 11/u boys team.”
