The Autumn ANZ Junior Pennant finals were held on Sunday 30 June at Weston Creek Tennis Club with the club providing a barbecue for participants. The day got off to a wet start with only half of the courts available for play due to rain.
It was third time lucky for Canberra Grammar School as they claimed top honours in the Division 1 ANZ Junior Pennant finals, after previously falling at the final hurdle the past two seasons.
Canberra Grammar School (CGS) team member, Quinn Blakers was pleased with their victory over Eastlake Tennis Club.
“It was good finally to win the Division 1 pennant for CGS. We had trained hard during the season.
“In all three of the finals, we played against strong teams. But this season’s final was when we worked best together as a team. Also, this year new courts were opened at CGS and they were good to train on.”
Representatives from ANZ were on hand to present medals and prizes to the participants which featured representation from 14 different clubs.
Red Hill Tennis Club took out the most pennants, winning Division 2 Red, 2 Blue, and 7 Blue.
The next season of ANZ Junior Pennant is set to start in early September with entries closing in mid August.
Congratulations to all the winners and finalists.
