About the role

The National Development Coach – Melbourne is responsible for assisting the National Development Head Coach – Melbourne in leading and delivering a high-performance tennis program in Victoria. This position must positively impact athlete and coach development within the state, through communication, education, integration and support. The National Development Coach – Melbourne is responsible for working with Talent and Performance team members in identifying and developing young athletes, with their private coach, to produce our next junior and senior Grand Slam competitors and champions along with top 100 ATP/WTA players in Australia.

In this role you will:

  • Assist the National Development Head Coach – Melbourne in delivering a world class tennis program at the National Talent Development level and to individual athletes.
  • Executes on court with excellence and professionalism – planning session, synergy between the plan and Daily Training Environment (DTE).
  • Ensure a holistic approach to athlete development, empowering athletes to perform at their best.
  • Builds trust and relationships with the athletes, parents and their team.
  • Managing key stakeholders to ensure best practices and smooth transition of players in and out of National Tennis Academy.

About you

What you will bring to the role:

  • High Performance coaching qualifications or willingness/ability to attain (mandatory).
  • Proven ability to develop and implement a high-performance tennis program and environment for developmental and elite tennis athletes.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills in both one-on-one & group settings.
  • Extensive experience coaching tennis at an elite national or international level and a successful track record.
  • Highly developed leadership skills and experience.
  • Past playing experience at the elite international level (preferred).
  • You must hold (or be willing to obtain) a current Police Check and Working with Children Check.

We operate out of a beautiful ITF Clay Court Facility, with 12 Pro Clay Courts under lights, and are located in Mornington, a coastal town on the Mornington Peninsula.

Our team places high importance on having a passion for coaching and a desire to continue to improve our delivery of tennis both no and off the court.

The on-court coaching hours will be predominately be working within our Performance Program delivering Squads and Private Lessons.

Being a coach in the Performance Squad Program the coach must be able to write lesson plans for the program, showing progression programs for the players.

The coach will also be required to work in additional programs such as:

Hot Shots, Adult Coaching & Holiday Clinics.

The coach will included in the delivery of tournaments including:

Junior ITF, National Junior & Open Tournaments, State Championships, UTR Tournaments etc.

Ballarat Regional Tennis Centre is located in Wendouree, Ballarat with 12 hard courts, 6 synthetic clay courts and 6 hot shot courts. All courts have lighting. BRTC facilitates many social, developmental and competitive playing opportunities.

Primary Purpose of Role

This position is responsible for the ongoing management and financial sustainability of BRTC and to ensure its operations aligns with the club’s mission and vision. This includes ensuring that BRTC continues to develop into a centre that is welcoming, safe, inclusive, innovative, community focused and socially connected.

The role also is responsible for promoting the benefits of participation in tennis for the benefit of the club, club members and general public including schools and other community groups.

Success in this role would mean that BRTC continues to be financially secure and is viewed throughout the local and state community as a centre that develops and supports regional, state and national level tennis players. Success would also mean that appropriate activity has grown membership and community involvement in the tennis centre.

Key Responsibilities/ Accountabilities:

  • Develop, present and implement business plans to ensure financial security of the club including payments of accounts and invoicing of club memberships and competitions.
  • Ensure appropriate management of day to day activities of the centre including but not limited to stocking of kiosk and bar, some cleaning of facilities and overseeing court maintenance.
  • Planning, development and implementation of programs including but not limited to;
    • Junior
    • Member Competitions
    • Tennis Victoria Competitions
    • School holiday
    • Fitness
    • Other Competition programs
  • Coaching players of all levels and collaborate with other BRTC coaches to provide best coaching and environment to all players. Expected to participate in all on court programs.
  • Develop program targeting membership growth
  • Engage, communicate and manage relationships with all relevant stakeholders
  • Community Engagement Program including School Programs
  • Player Tournament support including travelling  with teams to other competitions.
  • Maintaining a strong community atmosphere and promote tennis with all families and individuals in any club activities.
  • Seek grants and sponsorship opportunities
  • Management of website and other social media platforms
  • Act as a tournament Director for all BRTC tournaments

Qualifications and Experience:

Experience:

Necessary – 

  • Previous club management
  • Minimum of seven years of Coaching experience
  • Minimum of two years of coaching experience with performance players
  • Relevant certification from a recognised tennis coaching association (or willingness to obtain).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Prepared to work flexible hours including working on evenings, weekends and school holidays
  • Have a current Tennis Australia coaching membership or willingness and ability to obtain.

Preferred – 

  • Finance skills
  • Played tennis at a very high competitive level
  • Experience with offering tournament support

  • Base Salary of $73,600 to $75000 k+ superannuation
