World No.30 Daniela Hantuchova withdrew from the Brisbane International with injury shortly before her first round match on Monday.
The Slovakian is battling a partial tear of her left achilles tendon, with two weeks to recover ahead of the Australian Open starting on January 17.
Hantuchova, a semi-finalist at the 2008 Australian Open, was due to play Russian Anna Chakvetadze in the opening round of the Brisbane International on Monday and she was replaced by qualifying lucky loser Ksenia Pervak of Russia.
Meanwhile, in early results No. 2 seeded Shahar Peer has defeated Australian Sophie Ferguson 6-4 6-2 in their first round match while Poland’s Lukasz Kubot beat Daniel Brands of Germany 6-2 6-2.
