For the first time in Australian Open history the exciting finals action will be broadcast live from one of our nation’s most iconic beaches Bondi Beach.
Glenn Tasker, the CEO of Tennis NSW, officially launched the Australian Open 2011 Live Site at Bondi Beach this morning.
“I feel very honoured that Bondi Beach, an Australian icon and one of the most loved beaches in New South Wales, has been chosen as the first, Tasker said.
Here at Bondi the coverage kicked off yesterday and will run until the conclusion of the men’s final this Sunday January 30.
Federation Square in Melbourne and Bondi Beach are the only two live sites nation-wide during the Australian Open 2011, and both will be active from for the duration of the finals period.
An array of fun interactive tennis activities and sponsor promotions will also be on offer for people of all ages at the Bondi and Federation Square Live Sites over the next three days, Tasker added.
Jaslyn Hewitt, Athlete Development Manager – National Academy (Sydney), was also in attendance and spoke about the importance of inspiring the next generation to play tennis.
Following the formalities children from Tennis Australia’s kid’s starter program, MLC Tennis Hot Shots, showcased their tennis skills on the beach with two upcoming Sydney based National Academy players.
