Burnie, 3 February 2011 | Tennis Australia
Chris Guccione (Vic) and Karolina Wlodarczak (Vic) have advanced to the semifinals of the McDonald’s Burnie International after recording impressive victories on day four in Burnie, Tasmania.
Twenty-five-year-old Guccione upset No.2 seed Paolo Lorenzi (ITA) to reach his third ATP Challenger Tour semifinal in six months, while Wlodarczak defeated No.4 seed Jessica Moore in straight sets.
Wlodarczak will now face Emily Webley-Smith, who defeated No.8 seed Tammi Patterson after the young Victorian retired at the end of the first set.
Guccione will meet the winner of tonight’s blockbuster match between rising star Bernard Tomic and fellow Queenslander Benjamin Mitchell, who will be competing in his first ATP Challenger Tour quarterfinal.
Fifth-seeded Melburnian Olivia Rogowska comfortably won the first set in her quarterfinal against Slovenia’s Nastja Kolar but was outplayed in a tough three-set match. Kolar will now meet Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard in the semifinals.
