Carsten Ball has started on a winning note at the Caloundra Tennis International, notching a straight sets win over Korean qualifier Daniel Yoo today.

The No.4 seed suffered an early exit in last week’s Burnie International but bounced back strongly to kick off his campaign at the $50,000 ATP Challenger event in Queensland.

Aussies Brydan Klein, Matt Ebden and Greg Jones also joined Ball on the first round winner’s list.

Klein beat Nick Lindahl 6-3 7-5, Ebden eased past Hiroki Kondo 6-2 6-1 while Greg Jones fought  back from a set down to overhaul Czech Jan Hernych 2-6 6-4 7-5.

Queenslander John Millman survived a scare on day one, advancing past Sam Groth in three sets 6-2 2-6 7-5.

Millman will face either Bernard Tomic or Peter Polansky in the second round.
