Australia will face China in the second round of the Davis Cup Asia–Oceania zone in China.

The Chinese set up the second-round clash with the Australians after defeating Chinese Taipei 3-2 over the weekend in what was a tight affair.

Two rubbers went to five sets, two went to four sets and just one was a straight-sets win. Australia defeated Chinese Taipei 5-0 in 2010 in a tie that saw Bernard Tomic make his Davis Cup debut.

The upcoming tie against China marks just the second time these two countries have met in Davis Cup competition. The last time they squared off was 87 years ago. The 1924 tie was played in Brooklyn, New York, and saw a Gerald Patterson-led Australian team trounce the Chinese 5-0.

The tie will be held from 8 to 10 July at a venue that is still to be announced.
