Tickets for the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas go on sale at 9 am Wednesday 30 March 2011.
Australia will compete against Ukraine in their World Group Play-off at Glen Iris Valley Recreation Club, Mount Waverley, from Saturday 16 to Sunday 17 April 2011 to remain in the elite eight.
Tickets are being sold as a two-day series package with adult tickets priced at $53.90.
Concession tickets will be $44.90 and children’s tickets will be $17.90 with the family passes $125.90*.
Australia’s top four female players, Samantha Stosur, Jarmila Groth, Jelena Dokic and Anastasia Rodionova, are likely to spearhead the Australian Fed Cup team that will take on Ukraine for the second time at this point in the competition.
Both teams will be fighting to return to the World Group with their head-to-head record tied at 1-1.
Fed Cup Captain David Taylor said he and the team are looking forward to their World Group Play-off tie next month.
“Australia and Ukraine have had some great ties in the past and the competitive spirit between the two teams will be high,” Taylor said.
“The Ukraine team are never an easy opponent to play and particularly if either of the Bondarenko sisters play.
“The Australian girls have worked really hard as a team to get into the elite eight and I know they are keen to get back on court and prove they belong in the World Group.”
Tennis Australia’s Manager Major Events Kay Godkhindi said that she is looking forward to seeing how the Australian team performs in Melbourne.
“This will be the first time that Melbourne has hosted a Fed Cup tie since 1988 and it is a huge honour for the Glen Iris Valley Recreation Club,” Godkhindi said.
“With multiple en-tout-cas courts, which will be changed to clay for the tie, it will allow the Australian team to play on clay prior to the French Open and provide the perfect platform for some fierce competition in April.
“It should be a fantastic event and I hope many Melburnians will be inspired to come out in force to support the Australian team on home soil.”
Team nominations are due to be submitted to the ITF 10 days before the tie begins.
Tickets will be available through Ticketek, www.ticketek.com.au/fedcup or call 132 849.
