It’s Australia Day at Wimbledon on Tuesday with six Aussies on court led by former champion Lleyton Hewitt, Sam Stosur and rising star Bernard Tomic.
Hewitt has overcome a foot injury to take his place at The 125th Championships and will confront Japan’s Kei Nishikori.
Stosur, the top ranked Australian woman and No.10 seed, will square off against little known Hungarian Melinda Czink on her way to what looms as a fourth-round showdown with former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova.
Other Australians in action include Bernard Tomic up against World No.29 Russian Nikolay Davydenko, Anastasia Rodionova playing Czech Andrea Hlavackova, and Jarmila Gajdosova taking on Alona Bondarenko from the Ukraine.
The other Australian in action, Marinko Matosevic, is trailing 6-4 6-4 6-7(6) 3-1 against Argentine 25th seed Juan Ignacio Chela.
