Australian Jarmila Gajdosova has been knocked out of the Bank of the West Classic in the first round, falling to Michelle Larcher De Brito in three sets.
Gajdosova claimed the first set but eventually bowed out 5-7 6-2 6-3 at the WTA event in Stanford, California.
The Portuguese wildcard advanced despite 10 double faults and facing 11 aces from the Australian.
Gajdosova, who fell from world No.76 to No.95 following her first round defeat at Wimbledon, has won just two of her past seven matches.
She will have another opportunity to regain her form ahead of the Olympic tennis event in London, as she is entered into the draw at next week’s Mercury Insurance Open in Carlsbad, California.
She has qualified for the doubles event in London, where she will play for Australia in tandem with Anastasia Rodionova.
Gajdosova has historically performed very well when representing the green-and-gold, including a stunning win over then-No.16 Julia Goerges during Australia’s Fed Cup World Group Play-off victory against Germany in Stuttgart.
