Australian teenager Ashleigh Barty has vowed to grip it and rip it in her bid to cause the first big upset of the Australian Open on Monday.

One of two 16-year-olds in the draw, Barty takes on Slovakian 15th seed Dominika Cibulkova, who made the final in Sydney last week.

Barty, full of confidence after her victory over former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone at the recent Hopman Cup, says she won’t die wondering in Hisense Arena.

“Hopman Cup was an unbelievable week for me,” said the 2011 junior Wimbledon winner.

“I’m feeling good going into the match. It’s a tough match this year against Dominika – I know she hits it hard. We played her in doubles last year here, so I’ve had the chance to hit the ball against her.”

“I’m just looking forward to getting out there and giving it a rip.

“My whole game has developed to a new level.”

Barty, whose crafty playing style has been likened to that of Swiss great Martina Hingis, planned to feed off the support of the home crowd.

“It adds such a buzz to the air. Gets your adrenaline pumping so much,” Barty said.

“Hopefully it’s a pretty full stadium in Hisense tomorrow. I can go out there and kind of use my crowd to my advantage a bit.

“I mean, there’s so much energy out there. The crowd gets so into it. It’s an awesome feeling to be out there. Especially when you first walk out, it’s something you can’t really explain.

“I’ll go out there and give it my best shot and see what happens.”
