Aussie wheelies success in Chile

The Australian wheelchair tennis team has enjoyed some successful results on clay at the Chilean Open in Santiago, Chile (11-14 April 2013).
Melbourne’s Sarah Calati reached the semifinals of the women’s main draw singles before going down 6-2 7-6(5) to Francisca Mardones (CHI). In the quarterfinals Calati defeated fellow country woman Janel Manns 6-1 6-1, and in the first round Manns downed Australian Luba Josevski 6-4 6-1.
In the main draw doubles, Manns, of Port Macquarie, teamed with local Chilean Francisca Mardones to reach the final before being beaten in a tough final 1-6 6-4 10-8 against Brazilian pair Rejane Candida and Natalia Mayara.
In the consolation women’s singles, Victorian Josevski defeated Maria Paz Diaz Obregon of Chile 6-0 6-3 to win the title.
The Australian men also performed well, with Sydney’s Keegan Oh-Chee reaching the final of the consolation men’s singles before losing 7-6(5) 6-3 to Wladimir Rodas of Chile.
Oh-Chee then partnered with Jerry Markoja (NSW) to place second in the main draw doubles competition.
