MLC Tennis Hot Shots is a program that caters for junior players all over Australia, even those in remote areas.
Earlier this year Tennis West community tennis officer Paul Oldfield teamed up with Murlpirrmarra Connection, an organisation that encourages Indigenous engagement, to visit Wiluna, a small town on the edge of the Western Desert in Western Australia. It is located about 950 kilometres from the state’s capital Perth.
Oldfield and Murlpirrmarra Connection chief executive officer Darren Patten conducted a three-day MLC Tennis Hot Shots coaching clinic for local children.
“Each clinic averaged 42 children per lesson and an enormous amount of fun and tennis craft was displayed by the local children,” Patten said.
Tennis Australia donated MLC Tennis Hot Shots packs to be distributed during the tour.
“This will allow tennis and the MLC Tennis Hot Shots program to be sustainable throughout the year at the local Wiluna Remote Community School and the Wiluna Sport and Recreation Centre until we next visit,” Patten said.
