Ash Barty and Casey Dellacqua will face the biggest test of their US Open campaign so far when they take on second seeds and reigning French Open champions Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
The Aussie duo, themselves Australian Open and Wimbledon finalists in 2013, have yet to drop a set in three wins at Flushing Meadows, but will face sterner opposition against the Russians, who also combined for the prestigious Indian Wells title in March.
Barty and Dellacqua are the last remaining Aussies in doubles after John Peers and Scottish partner Jamie Murray fell in three tight sets in their quarterfinal match on Tuesday.
There are also no Australians remaining in singles after Lleyton Hewitt’s sapping five-set defeat to Mikhail Youzhny in then fourth round.

Yet Aussie Thanasi Kokkinakis remains alive in the boys’ junior singles, and will continue his campaign on Day 10 against 11th seed Nicolas Jarry of Chile.
Pat Cash will also make an appearance on Grandstand in the Champions Doubles event.
