The hot and breezy conditions proved to be a challenge for some players as they vied to register early wins.
Max Purcell stunned top seed Brad Mousley, upsetting the South Australian in a long three-set match, 6-2 1-6 6-3.
The news was better for third seed Marc Polmans who barely put a foot wrong in his comprehensive 6-0 6-1 win over Jacob Scott.

In the 14s Australian Championships, top four seeds Petra Hule, Jaimee Fourlis, Michaela Haet and Somer Dalla-Bona all chalked up impressive straight-sets wins.
