Newport, RI, USA, 9 July 2014 | AP/AAP/tennis.com.au

Lleyton Hewitt and Luke Saville are through to the second round of the ATP tournament in Newport, Rhode Island.

Australian warrior Hewitt came from a set down to defeat American Ryan Harrison 1-6 7-5 6-4, while 20-year-old South Australian Saville defeated Canadian Peter Polansky 6-4 6-2.

American John Isner rode his fierce serve to another victory on Newport’s grasscourts, defeating compatriot Wayne Odesnik 6-3 7-6 to also reach the second round on Tuesday.

Isner had 19 aces – with one serve topping 137 mph (221kmh) – and only two double-faults in raising his career record at Newport to 14-3.

“Hopefully I can keep it going,” the 2011 and 2012 champion Isner said.

In doubles action, Aussies Sam Groth and Matt Ebden won through to the quarterfinals with a 5-7 6-2 [10-6] victory over American Kevin King and Michal Przysiezny of Poland.

On Wednesday, Hewitt, Saville and Sam Groth will all play their second round singles matches; Hewitt takes on qualifier Ante Pavic, Saville plays No.4 seed Nicolas Mahut and Groth faces Malek Jaziri of Tunisia.
