Thanasi Kokkinakis has continued his excellent form on the ATP World Tour to qualify for the 500-level tournament in Acapulco, Mexico.

The Australian teen reached the main draw with a 4-6 6-3 7-6(3) victory over Colombia’s Alejandro Falla, the fifth seed in qualifying.

It is the third straight ATP tournament at which Kokkinakis has qualified – after doing so at Memphis and in Delray Beach – and his win-loss record now stands at an impressive 11-4 in 2015 after he also won rounds at the Brisbane International and the Australian Open.

“Man..feels good to get that win, wasn’t pretty but a tough grind in tough conditions 3rd ATP quailes in a row #hustle,” Kokkinakis tweeted.

The South Australian this week sits at a career-high ranking of 138th.

Later on Monday, fellow Aussie Marinko Matosevic progressed to the second round of the main draw with a commanding 6-4 6-2 win over Spain’s Marcel Granollers.

Matosevic won 83 per cent of his first serve points en route to the 83-minute victory, and is likely to next face David Ferrer should the No.2 seed overcome Dutchman Igor Sijsling.

The news was not so good for Sam Groth; the big-serving Victorian fell 6-3 4-6 6-0 to fifth seed Alexandr Dolgopolov.
