The Social Serve: Twittersphere goes into meltdown
Social media sleuth Joel Smith digs up the best of tennis in the social stratosphere this week.
21 May 2015 | Tennis Australia
When Nick Kyrgios defeated Roger Federer in Madrid earlier this month, the Twittersphere went into meltdown. When Daria Gavrilova defeated Ana Ivanovic in Rome last week, the Twittersphere again went into meltdown. Coincidence, or is the social media world starting to take notice of our Aussie young guns?
Clocked up the hours on court this week! Thank you all for the support! Thanks @prattstar22 it was fun!!! See you next year @InteBNLdItalia

I think we can all agree Lleyton Hewitt has taken to Twitter like a duck to water. He’s even created his own Wimbledon hashtag: #TheRoadToSW19

Another player with Wimbledon on his mind is Ben Mitchell.
Considering my preparation I was happy to play a high level match at the @rolandgarros today. A week in Paris and then on to the grass!

But back to Lleyton, and his slow-mo video of this obscure serving drill is well worth a look.
Was really happy with my serving target practice today! Hard'en up @Pat4990! Enjoy Coach @CrabbJaymon @MattReid12345 pic.twitter.com/vmXHZ6qpJ9

The other big Twitter tennis story for the week was the blossoming relationship between new doubles pairing Nick Kyrgios and American Jack Sock.
Another big result for @JackSock @NickKyrgios in Rome dubs onto semis now.. boys must be letting loose on some seriously large Fhands

Should @VasekPospisil worry? A new bromance is brewing between @JackSock/@NickKyrgios in Rome. http://t.co/k3oB3oIVQQ pic.twitter.com/cp5K9OOBhf

The bromance taking over @JackSock haha #losingsleep
— Nicholas Kyrgios (@NickKyrgios) May 17, 2015
So what does Nick do in his downtime when he’s not losing sleep over Jack Sock? It seems he’s playing FIFA online with Andy Murray!
Playing #FIFA with my bro @xkyrgios & the boys. No @andy_murray in sight but as its his birthday I'll cut him some slack! #HappyBirthday

In other, more serious tennis news, Thanasi Kokkinakis won a title!

Unfortunately Jarmila Gajdosova was forced to pull out of Rome due to injury, but was quick to send what was arguably the “feel good” tweet of the week.
I wish all the best to @MariaSharapova .thank you for being nice and understanding about my injury. I know you been thru it yourself!
— Jarmila Gajdosova (@tennis_jarkag) May 12, 2015
John Millman gave Jarmila a good run for her money though.
You have a disappointing day on court yesterday and then you wake up this morning to news you are an uncle. #perspective

Elsewhere, Matthew Barton snapped himself in Seoul.

Which got us thinking, was it the purple shorts that made him upset?

And Nick Kyrgios received his own portrait from an inspired fan.

Are John Millman and Jason Kubler ‘Kissyo Frozen Yogurt’s’ newest ambassadors?

Finally, it wouldn’t be ‘Social Serve’ without an obligatory Instagram #selfie or two. Is this one of the best selfies of 2015 so far?

But this week’s winner is… Harry Bourchier!
