Australian trio Bernard Tomic, Nick Kyrgios and Daria Gavrilova have fallen in the third round at respective ATP and WTA hard court events in Canada.
At the ATP Montreal Masters, Tomic fell 7-6(7) 6-3 to defending champion Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
A day after beating reigning US Open champion Marin Cilic, the Queenslander looked set to stage another upset when he held a set point on serve against the Frenchman in the tiebreak.
Yet Tsonga saved it, reeling off three straight points to clinch the first set.
He went on to seal victory in one hour and 19 minutes, clinching a quarterfinal berth against No.2 seed Andy Murray.
Earlier on Thursday, Kyrgios went down to the in-form American John Isner in straight sets.
Isner, who had in previous weeks won the Atlanta title and finished runner-up in Washington DC, was too strong for the 20-year-old Kyrgios, sealing a 7-5 6-3 win.
At the WTA Rogers Cup in Toronto, Daria Gavrilova’s impressive run came to an end at the hands of Italian veteran Roberta Vinci.
Gavrilova, who had earlier in the tournament upset Sam Stosur and No.7 seed Lucie Safarova, lost 6-4 6-3.
Next up for Vinci is world No.1 Serena Williams in the quarterfinals.
