Australia stands atop its round robin group at the Junior Davis Cup finals after dismissing Colombia 3-0 in its second tie in Madrid.
The victory – anchored by straight-sets singles wins to Alexei Popyrin and Alex De Minaur and completed when De Minaur and Blake Ellis won the doubles rubber – was a second consecutive 3-0 win for the green-and-gold.
As a result, they head Group D with a perfect 6-0 record in rubbers and 12-0 in sets.
A win over Germany – the group’s second-placed team – would ensure Australia’s progression to the competition semifinals.
Australia’s girls remain on track for a similar result, winning their second straight round-robin match in Group A of the Junior Fed Cup finals.
The 2-1 victory over the Netherlands – helped by solid play from Destanee Aiava – puts the girls in first place in the group, just above the top seeded Czech Republic.
On Thursday, Australia will face the Czechs for a place in the semifinals.
