Australia’s John Millman has narrowly missed out on a spot in the Shenzen Open quarterfinals after being beaten by second seed Marin Cilic.
The Croatian took just shy of two hours to complete a 6-3 4-6 6-3 win and set up a last eight meeting with teenager Hyeon Chung.
The Korean breezed through his own second-round encounter, beating Britain’s No.2 Aljaz Bedene, the seventh seed, 6-2 6-0 inside an hour.
Spanish fourth seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez beat Czech Lukas Rosol 6-4 6-3, while Adrian Mannarino, the fifth seed from France, saw off China’s Yan Bai 7-5 7-6(7).
