Daria Gavrilova has moved through to the second round of the Aegon International Eastbourne with a comprehensive win over Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova.
The match, suspended overnight on Monday with Gavrilova leading 3-0, resumed on Tuesday and Gavrilova wasted little time, running out a 6-1 7-5 winner in one hour, 22 minutes.
With her opponent double-faulting nine times, Gavrilova sealed a place in the last 32 where she will meet 10th seed Karolina Pliskova.
Meanwhile, Sam Stosur’s Eastbourne campaign ended at the first hurdle with a 6-2 6-1 loss to former world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki.
The Australian, who received a first-round bye as the tournament’s seventh seed, fell to the Dane in 68 minutes.
The loss leaves Stosur with just one grasscourt match going into Wimbledon, which begins on Monday.
Wozniacki, currently ranked 37th, goes on to face in the third round qualifier Monica Puig, who overcame fellow qualifier Ana Konjuh.
