Daria Gavrilova has lost to Simona Halep in the second round of the WTA Coupe Rogers in Montreal.
World No.5 Halep beat the Australian 6-2 6-3 on Tuesday (Wednesday AEST) in one hour and 16 minutes.
The win sends the Romanian through to the third round where she will face either 14th seed Karolina Pliskova or Italy’s Sara Errani.
Gavrilova was broken early in the first set and never recovered, dropping serve again in the seventh game to lose the opener.
Players traded breaks in the early stages of a tighter second set before Halep scored another break in the fifth game.
Leading 3-2, the fifth seed maintained her advantage and broke again to close out the straight sets win.
Gavrilova’s loss leaves Sam Stosur as the last Aussie women remaining in Montreal.
