Sam Groth has failed to set up an all-Australian showdown with Nick Kyrgios at the Atlanta Open, having been thrashed in the first round by local hope Jared Donaldson.
The American wildcard triumphed 6-2 6-4 against the affable Groth, who went down in 65 minutes on Monday.
Donaldson will next face a second-round clash with No.2 seed Kyrgios, who was granted a first-round bye.
On Tuesday (Atlanta time), Australian qualifier John-Patrick Smith will face France’s Julien Benneteau.
