Rodionova through in US Open qualifying
Arina Rodionova was Australia's shining light on the second day of US Open qualifying, while our three Aussie men in action all fell at the first hurdle.

Arina Rodionova has progressed to round two of US Open qualifying with an gritty straight-sets win over Brazil’s Paula Cristina Goncalves.
Rodionova won 7-6(2) 7-5 to set up a second-round match against China’s Han Xinyun.
The news was not so good for Australia’s men, however; Andrew Whittington, Luke Saville and John-Patrick Smith were all bundled out in the first round.
Smith, who qualified for the main draw in New York in 2015, was beaten 6-2 7-5 by Tobias Kamke, while Whittington fell 6-4 6-4 to 12th seed Joao Souza of Brazil.
Saville went down in a heartbreaker to American wildcard Christian Harrison – after winning the first set, the South Australian lost 4-6 6-0 7-5.
Rodionova and Matt Barton, the only two Aussies remaining in qualifying, will contest their second round matches on Thursday at Flushing Meadows.
