Sam Stosur and Daria Gavrilova were ousted from the WTA Wuhan Open after each suffered straight-sets losses on Monday.
Stosur, the No.16 seed, fell to the resurgent Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 6-2 in 75 minutes, her seventh loss in 12 career meetings with the former world No.1.
Wozniacki was ranked 74th coming into the US Open yet reached the semifinals, and continued her stellar form with victory last week in Tokyo.
The Dane is now on the brink of a return to the world’s top 20.
Stosur, meanwhile, next heads to Beijing for the China Open.
Gavrilova exited the Wuhan tournament following a 6-2 6-2 loss to Jelena Jankovic, another resurgent former world No.1.
Jankovic last week reached the final in Guangzhou and will next face No.2 seed Garbine Muguruza.
